The Fire Boom will be deployed offshore in Atlantic Canada during the early summer of 2022 in support of on-water testing. The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is the lead federal agency responsible for ensuring the clean-up of all ship source and mystery source pollution spills into waters under Canadian jurisdiction. To fulfill this mandate, the Canadian Coast Guard requires a capability to collect, contain and recover burned residue and unburned oil following an in-situ burning of oil at sea operation. The requirement is subject to the provisions of the World Trade Organization Agreement on Government Procurement (WTO-AGP), the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA),the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA)and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
