The primary objective of the project is to design and conduct empirical research to examine the effectiveness of Workplace Health and Safety Committees (WHSCs) within small and medium-sized employers in both unionized and non-unionized settings in the federally regulated private sector (FRPS) and federal crown corporations. This research will: 1. examine and compare the process and outcome effectiveness of WHSCs between unionized and non-unionized settings; 2. identify and compare factors influencing the process and outcome effectiveness of WHSCs between unionized and non-unionized settings; 3. identify promising practices for WHSCs to improve their members’ occupational health and safety outcomes; and 4. provide policy and/or regulatory recommendations for the Labour Program to promote occupational health and safety outcomes.
