Description:

Description:

To align with the Government of Canada direction on evidence-based policy, NRCan has a requirement for access to data and analytical tools that enable customized searches, benchmarking, and foresight analysis from a reputable and reliable source of information about scientific publications and related scientific outputs. The Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) previously conducted a “proof of concept” pilot with Clarivate Analytics to assess if their web-based bibliometrics application called “Web of Science” and their analytical platform called “InCites” could serve needs of NRCan’s science and research community. The results of the pilot indicated that these tools met requirements for use of these tools for research and science management. NRCan will now undertake a use-case assessment of both “Web of Science” and “InCites”. The objective is to incorporate the use of these tools into the current framework of research management and strategic science planning and reporting. To be adopted for use within the current NRCan-CFS science management structure, these tools must be user-friendly for use by non-specialists and provide information about various aspects of science-based policy, science network mapping and foresight, and science planning and reporting. Advice and expertise will also be needed to achieve this. Deliverables will include a report on strategic science direction for a NRCan-CFS science program that leverages information about recent reputable, relevant, and peer-reviewed published literature in the field, foresight analysis of significant trends and science direction, network mapping specific to the program priorities, and program performance indicators of outputs, reach and impact.
