Description:
The Robert & Marilyn is a 32ft fishing vessel that is currently aground in Iona, Nova Scotia, in position 45 56’ 40.3’’ N , 060 49’ 10.5’’ W. The vessel poses a threat of pollution if no immediate remedial actions are taken. The vessel was reported aground on September 26th, 2021. The vessel hull is constructed of fiberglass over wood and has a registered gross tonnage of 7.73 Tonnes. The vessel is penetrated on the port side and is currently aground. The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) removed all accessible pollutants from the vessel but some residual pollution remains on board. CCG will take measures to eliminate the threat of pollution and prevent damage to the marine environment. On October 20th, 2021 Canadian Coast Guard Environmental Response (CCG ER) conducted a site visit and found that there has been extensive damage to the vessel. Debris from the vessel can be found on the shoreline, due to this the vessel will not be able to be removed as whole. Fisheries and Oceans Canada requires a Contractor to remove, demolish and dispose of the Vessel Raymond & Marilyn pursuant to paragraph 180(1)a) of the Canada Shipping Act 2001.
