Product Service Code:f005 - natural resources/conservation- forest tree planting
Description:
The Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest in northern New Mexico is in need of services to retrieve and dispose of Vexar tree protection tubes that have been outgrown by the seedlings, as well as to install Tree Sentry solid tree shelters over 24,000 seedlings planted in the fall of 2021. The solicitation is for Vexar tube recovery and Tree shelter installation services on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest. The Forest planted ponderosa pine and Douglas-fir seedlings within the Cajete Fire burn area in 2018. The seedlings have outgrown many of the Vexar tubes or have died. This project would collect and dispose of these tubes and associated solid rings (see Exhibit 2, Contract Statement of Work), on 8 units totaling 274 acres, with an average of approximately 175 per acre based on planting densities. The contractor will rent roll-off dumpsters to be positioned centrally as indicated in Exhibit 1b and transport tubes there for disposal. Based on a similar operation in 2021, it is estimated that 3-4 dumpster loads of tubes will be collected. Additionally, ponderosa pine seedlings were erroneously planted under aspen in patches totaling about 3 acres in units 1 and 2. These aspen patches will be flagged out in advance by the Forest Service, and the contractor will hand pull the seedlings within these patches as the shelters are being collected. Seedlings can be dropped where they are pulled. See Attached
